Thank you for serving as an editor for JLE: Journal of Literate of English Education Study Program.  Your role is crucial in upholding the integrity and quality of our publication. The following guidelines outline your responsibilities and provide instructions to help you manage the editorial process efficiently and fairly.

Role and Responsibilities of Editors

As an editor, you are responsible for:

  • Overseeing the peer review process to ensure timely and fair reviews.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of manuscripts and the review process.
  • Ensuring that manuscripts meet the journal's standards for quality and relevance.
  • Making impartial and informed decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts.
  • Addressing ethical issues and potential conflicts of interest.

Manuscript Handling Process

  1. Submission and Initial Screening:
  • Review new submissions to ensure they fit the scope and aims of the journal.
  • Conduct an initial assessment for quality, originality, and relevance.
  • Check for compliance with the journal's formatting and submission guidelines.
  • Use plagiarism detection tools to verify the originality of the manuscript.
  1. Assignment to Reviewers:
  • Select suitable and qualified reviewers for the manuscript based on their expertise.
  • Ensure a double-blind review process if applicable, where the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential.
  • Invite reviewers and provide them with the manuscript and guidelines for conducting the review.
  • Monitor the review process to ensure timely completion of reviews.
  1. Review Management:
  • Evaluate the reviewers' comments and recommendations.
  • Communicate with reviewers if additional clarification or further information is needed.
  • Make a preliminary decision based on reviewers' feedback (accept, minor revisions, major revisions, reject).

  • Provide constructive and detailed feedback to authors to help them improve their work, regardless of the decision.

  • Inform authors of the editorial decision along with reviewers' comments.
  • Guide authors through the revision process if necessary.
  • Ensure clear and professional communication throughout the editorial process.

Ethical Considerations

  • Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and the details of the review process.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Declare any potential conflicts of interest and recuse yourself from handling manuscripts where a conflict exists.
  • Ethical Compliance: Ensure that manuscripts adhere to ethical guidelines, including those related to research on human and animal subjects, informed consent, and data integrity.
  • Handling Misconduct: Address allegations of misconduct, such as plagiarism or data fabrication, in accordance with the journal's policies.

Editorial Policies

  • Authorship Criteria: Verify that all listed authors meet the criteria for authorship and that contributions are appropriately acknowledged.
  • Manuscript Withdrawal: Manage requests for manuscript withdrawal in line with the journal's policy.
  • Appeals and Complaints: Address appeals and complaints from authors in a fair and transparent manner.

  • Efficient Processing: Strive to handle all manuscripts efficiently to ensure timely publication.
  • Deadlines: Adhere to deadlines for each stage of the editorial process to maintain the journal’s publication schedule.

Final Steps

  • Final Proofreading: Ensure that accepted manuscripts are free of errors and formatted according to the journal's standards.
  • Publication: Oversee the final steps of the publication process, including typesetting, proofreading, and online posting.
